Short breaks

Residential short breaks at The Children’s Trust offer flexible, nurse-led care for children and young people between the ages of 0-18.

Set in 24-acres of beautiful woodland at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, Surrey, we offer overnight stays in comfortable, fully-accessible bedrooms, available seven days a week.

With facilities including sensory gardens, a nature trail, a wheelchair-accessible tree house, as well as an outdoor basketball court and playground, our tailored packages offer breaks for children and young people, and much needed rest time for their families.

The children we support may:

  • have complex disabilities and health care needs which require support from a carer or a nurse
  • be vulnerable to acute health changes, necessitating in them needing 24-hour care

Due to the vulnerability of children at The Children's Trust we are unable to accommodate children with severe challenging behaviour, however, we may be able to suggest alternative placements.

During their stay, children enjoy a variety of fun leisure activities, facilities and outings, and also have access to on-site daily school sessions during term-time. In addition, we also offer a range of activities including arts and crafts, themed weeks, and group and individual activities. Families are also welcome to access our Saturday/holiday clubs which run throughout the year.

Packages are available for children and young people from a wide geographical area, and our dedicated Placements Team work closely with a number of parties including clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), local authority social care teams and private funders to discuss suitability and availability of a short breaks placement.

Camps and clubs

Our play scheme offers children and young people aged 5 –17 with multiple disabilities and complex health needs the opportunity to enjoy leisure activities and to have fun in a safe environment. Focusing on creating experiences that are meaningful for them, we provide a variety of exciting activities for the children to participate in, supported by nurse-led, one-to-one staffing.

Organised by our specialist play team, each holiday camp is based around a set theme and each day starts with a sensory tray activity, followed by a range of engaging craft activities, as well as cooking and baking. Outdoor sessions are also planned for the children and each day ends with a sensory story and singing.

With spaces available each day for up to 8 children and young people, sessions run 10am–4pm throughout Easter, summer and winter school holidays and on selected Saturdays. Our Saturday Clubs usually run on the last Saturday of each month. Sessions are priced from £22 per day.
