As autumn begins, before the Christmas rush gets underway, October offers a welcome moment to pause and reflect on our roots. It is a time to celebrate the people, stories and values at the heart of The Children’s Trust, as well as the dedicated staff who bring our work to life each day.

Throughout the month, we’ll recognise our brilliant clinical teams as part of Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day and celebrate the vital role they play in supporting children and families. We’ll also explore stories from our history and our home in Tadworth, highlighting how gifts in Wills can help us be there for future generations of children and young people.

We’ll also be looking ahead to some of our festive fundraising activities, including Elf Fun and our Christmas Raffle, while making the most of the spooky season along the way.

Our roots and lasting legacy

The story of The Children’s Trust began with an extraordinary gift. In 1927 a generous legacy left by Mr Peter Reid, helped establish our home at Tadworth Court, laying the foundations for the organisation we are today. Ever since, gifts left in Wills have played a special part in our story, helping to fund facilities, equipment and specialist services for children and young people with brain injury and neurodisability. Almost 100 years on Mr Reid could not have anticipated what his gift would go on to achieve.

This Free Wills Month, we will celebrate the lasting difference these gifts can make and share how supporters can write or update a simple Will for free. Remembering The Children’s Trust in a Will, after taking care of loved ones, can help create a future where more children and families receive the specialist support they need. Celebrating AHP day and our therapy team

Wednesday 14 October marks this years Allied Health Professions (AHP) day. This national event, developed by the #AHPCommunity, brings together AHPs from across the health and care sector to connect, share their impact, and celebrate the vital role they play in helping people live healthier, more independent lives.

On this day we will shine a light on the wonderful colleagues across our Therapies Directorate. From allied health professionals and psychologists to health play specialists, leisure coordinators, multidisciplinary team technicians and administrators, each person brings skill, care and dedication to their work with children, young people and families. Staff will be invited to enjoy a range of wellbeing and engagement activities as we celebrate everything they contribute.

Spooktacular fun at The Children’s Trust School

Alongside this month of reflection, there will be plenty of autumn fun at The Children’s Trust School. Children and young people can look forward to creative, sensory and suitably spooky-themed enrichment activities, bringing the season to life across the school.

Looking ahead to Christmas

October also brings the first sparkle of the festive season. We are delighted to let you know that entries for our Christmas Raffle are now open, our festive fundraiser Elf fun is back and tickets to our Christmas event, Santa’s Grotto at the children’s trust, are now on sale!
