Surrey Cycle Challenge

09 September 2018
  • Sunday 9 September 2018

Our annual cycling challenge is back, but with a new location and route! For 2018, we are moving our bespoke cycle challenge (formerly London to Canterbury) to start and finish at The Children's Trust's very own Tadworth Court. Take on the beautiful and winding cycle routes of Surrey, including views of the Low Weald from the North Downs, and experience the thrill of a cycle sportive challenge. Riders will meet and set off from The Children’s Trust base, and can opt from a picturesque yet challenging 65 mile which takes you through to Bough Beach reservoir, or a shorter and equally charming 46 mile route, finishing with a welcoming reception back at the home of the UK’s leading charity for children with acquired brain injury. This ride offers even the most seasoned of riders a thrill, and is also an exciting challenge for less experienced riders. Riders will benefit from extensive route support including mobile mechanics, recovery vehicles and first aid, as well as full route signage and marshals. The ride includes regular and well stocked feed stations, you’ll cross the finish line to our after party, where cyclists are invited to enjoy a complimentary sports massage. Friends and family are encouraged to cheer their cycling heroes through the finish line!

    Included in your entry:

    • Full route signage
    • Fully marshalled route
    • First aid
    • Fully stocked and regular feed stations
    • Mobile mechanic support and recovery vehicles
    • Optional complimentary sports massage for finishers

    Entry

Entry is £35 per cyclist. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, and therefore we ask that you pledge to raise just £1.50 for each mile cycled to help children with brain injury.

We look forward to having you in the saddle for the ride!
  • Fundraising

Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event, and therefore we ask that you pledge to raise just £1.50 for each mile cycled to help children with brain injury. To help you get started, you can download our  Fundraising Guide, which is filled with ideas and inspiration on how to meet your target. The easiest way to kick start your fundraising is by setting up an online giving page. We recommend you share your page via email, Facebook and Twitter for your friends and family to sponsor you. Or, if you'd prefer to use a paper sponsorship form, you can download one here  Sponsorship Form.

    Cycle wear

It is absolutely essential that all riders wear a well-fitting, comfortable cycle helmet. We would recommend wearing clothing which is close fitting to eliminate drag from the wind, as well as something which is high visibility, so you can be seen easily by other road users. Our Children’s Trust cycle jersey is just £30 and is made from a high wicking, technical fabric designed to wick away moisture, and includes back pockets providing handy storage for maps, gels etc.

    Bikes

Our Surrey Cycle Challenge can be completed on different types of bikes including road, tandem, hybrid and mountain bikes. It is very important to make sure your bike is in roadworthy condition, both for your training and for the day of the event. If in doubt, it is advised that you have your bike checked or serviced beforehand.

Get your friends & family involved

There are several ways your friends and family can get involved too! If they don’t fancy taking on the challenge with you, why not ask them to sponsor you instead? Or, perhaps they would like to come and help cheer you and the rest of our riders through the finish line.
