What makes these photos special to your story?
"After seven months in hospital, arriving at The Children's Trust meant that our family was reunited. We had Christmas together at Tadworth, enjoyed time together in the grounds and visited beauty spots and shopping centres in the area, with a new-found freedom. Physiotherapy started me on a path towards leading an active life once more, and I was delighted to be back in a school room.
"My climbing journey is very special to me. I climbed with a ventilator to start with and in 2018 I was filmed climbing at Horseshoe Quarry in an award-winning film, Reach. In 2019 I started at Sheffield University." - Clare

Ellis
What makes these photos special to your story?
"The first is not only one of my favourite photos ever, but a significant one. It was Ellis’s last day at Tadworth, so very mixed emotions...over the moon to be taking him home, but also very sad to be saying goodbye to all those that had been brilliant with Ellis during his stay.
These photos all show Ellis doing the normal everyday things that he couldn’t do for such a long time. The Children's Trust takes massive credit for getting him back to normal." - Matt, Ellis's dad

Ezra
What makes these photos special to your story?
“The first photo is Ezra 28 days before he had a life changing stroke. No signs of what was to come. The second is Ezra on his first day out of PICU after having a lifesaving craniotomy, followed by photos of his time at The Children’s Trust – the staff from Maple house who cared for him, and ringing the bell at the end of his rehabilitation.
"Now, Ezra loves being outside and being able to walk by himself and explore. He’s doing amazing at school, learning new things, speaking more and more each day, and trying to use his affected arm so much more. Mainly just being a little boy running and playing with his friends.” – Laura, Ezra’s mum

What makes these photos special to your story?
"Jenson had to go through 18 months of weekly chemotherapy in 2019 after his brain tumour had started to grow again and the Purple heart shows the end of treatment. He completed his first 3km walk and got a Santa medal. He was last but everyone was cheering him on to finish.
"The photo of Jenson in his suit is special as he is standing alone with very little help. Through his strength he was able to say goodbye to his beloved Nanny who passed away in Dec 2020. Nanny always encouraged him to keep going with his recovery and thought The Children's Trust was an amazing place to help him with rehabilitation." - Kimberley, Jenson's mum

What makes these photos special to your story?
"The landscape photo I took after my head injury, of the seaside village my Grandad lived in. He was a great inspiration to me, and when he sadly passed in 2017 it left a big hole in my life. The photo I chose of him was when I last visited him in person, we made every moment special.
"The last photo is of my girlfriend of 9 years, who was instrumental in my overall recovery. Our relationship started not long after my head injury in June 2011, and my subsequent return to school. The photo was taken in 2012, the summer after we finished secondary school, and shows how close we were, and will remain to be." - Joe

“These photos were taken between 2018 and 2020. The first few show Joey’s time in Alder Hey children’s hospital. After four months in hospital we were able to come home and you can see how proud he was! The next show Joey’s time at The Children’s Trust. Joey came alive in the fabulous computer room and really looked forward to those sessions.
"One of my favourite photos from The Children’s Trust is Joey’s tea round as he had found some confidence and would ask what everyone wanted, make a list, make the drinks then wheel the trolley around the house to deliver them. The last photo is Joey and I looking to the future over the hills. The future is ours to take part in, whatever it brings we will embrace it as part of Joey’s story, we are blessed.” - Karen, Joey’s mum

Josh
Josh was just two-and-a-half when a rare and potentially fatal polio-style virus struck in 2016. He spent six months at The Children's Trust in 2017.
What makes these photos special to your story?
"The picture of us all with Josh walking out of the front gate in July 2017 was one of the most emotional and memorable moments of our lives. Josh was completely paralysed by a virus that caused Acute Flaccid Myelitis in July 2016. After 6 months in PICU, he came to The Children's Trust for rehabilitation, where he improved so much that by the time he left he was able to walk out the front gates by himself!

Josh
"The second was taken at his leaving BBQ on Mulberry house, which was a very happy day because after a year away from home, Josh was finally able to come back home. It is also special because it shows what a happy, positive boy he is, despite everything he has been through.
"Whilst Josh has not fully recovered and his right arm remains paralysed, he is thriving at mainstream school and lives a life that I never could have imagined in those early days. Without The Children's Trust, he would not be where he is today and we can never thank everyone there enough." - Karen, Josh's mum

"I have chosen these photos to show how far Mia has come. From being in hospital and finding she could play a few notes on the keyboard, to The Children’s Trust spending hours playing the piano in the lounge. Baking a cake in The Children’s Trust kitchen and decorating a beautiful 'thank you' cake on bell ringing day.
"Best of all Mia fulfilling her wish of being able to ride a bike again - practicing on The Children’s Trust three wheeler, and then pumping up the tyres ready to ride her own bike." - Angela, Mia's mum

What makes these photos special to your story?
"The first photo is the day Mollie was admitted to hospital, the worst day of our lives. Mollie was in hospital for eight weeks in total.
"After that there are photos of Mollie with the amazing team at The Children’s Trust, she would not be where she is today if she hadn’t been given her three month placement.
"The last four photos are very special because they are of Mollie and I back at home and being able to enjoy life again after a very traumatic illness that sadly left Mollie with severe brain injury. She will forever have difficulties but thank you to the Children’s Trust for helping her get back on her feet on the road to recovery." - Ceri, Mollie's mum

Having had to learn how to walk again who would have thought he could do this six months later. Photo three is the first day of school for both boys, primary and secondary. We were told whilst ill Riley may not be able to attend mainstream school.
"The next two are Riley celebrating his prom night and finally becoming a teenager, and the last ones show a family holiday to Florida, with lots of walking and fun, very tiring but he managed it very well with the exception of photo 7. Photo 7 - Exhausted!" - Amanda, Riley's mum

Robbie
Robbie was diagnosed with Infantile Batten Disease, a very rare and incurable neurological disorder. He, and his family, first came to The Children's Trust in 2009.

Robbie
What makes these photos special to your story?
"The first is one of the last photos we took of baby Robbie before he started showing strange symptoms: seizures, agitation, the loss of all his skills like crawling, sitting, pointing and making sounds. After months of testing, he was diagnosed. Robbie was seven in the second photo and had been admitted to Mulberry for an extended stay to cover David being born; this was the first time he met his youngest brother, on the sofa in the Mulberry lounge and the whole family was together." - Belinda, Robbie's mum

Robbie
"The next photo was Robbie’s 11th birthday, a drumming party in Mulberry lounge with the extended family. By this time he was mainly living in Mulberry, coming home for alternate weekends, as his care needs were so high.
"The last photo was Robbie’s last outing to the treehouse in The Children’s Trust gardens on a sunny spring day. We believe that he had kept going for so long, defying medical expectations, because he was so happy and felt so loved – and that was due in no small part to the wonderful care he received at The Children’s Trust." - Belinda, Robbie's mum

What makes these photos special to your story?
"These photos are special to my story because they show how far I have come. I never thought I would even come out of the accident ok and now I am living and thriving and pursuing all the dreams like how I got into a west end production (School of Rock) in London.
"It had always been my dream to perform on a stage and thanks to The Children’s Trust and their continued support I can achieve all of my aspirations. I am so grateful for everything. I never thought I would come this far. Thank you so much." - Savannah

Sofia-Rose
What makes these photos special to your story?
"Sofia suffered a life changing stroke at birth and we were warned she may never walk or talk. She was also certified several vision impaired/blind and developed west syndrome and epilepsy as a result of her brain injury.
"Sofia had always been very determined to do everything the doctors said she couldn’t, so the day Sofia walked with her brother around our rugby stadium to raise awareness for childhood stroke was so special to us! She then went on to win Child of the Year award for her bravery and raising awareness." - Sarah, Sofia's mum

Tommy
Tommy was just two years old when he sustained his brain injury after a fall from 50ft off a balcony on vacation. In August 2007, just over a month after his accident, Tommy was transferred to The Children’s Trust for rehabilitation.

Tommy
What makes these photos special to your story?
"We didn't know what was going to happen with Tommy and his life. Would be be able to walk, talk or eat on his own? Slowly he regained those skills during the first six months of rehabilitation in Tadworth. These photos show the love and creativity the staff brought to make sure a two year old would want to engage with the sessions. Tommy still struggled with balance and coordination and walking completely on his own for some time.
"Frequent falls or bumped heads were commonplace but he never gave up. Tommy's speech was also ataxic and slow, but we are so excited that he is now in theatre and gave the speech at his 8th grade graduation in 2020. No one has problems hearing Tommy now. The family photo was taken this Christmas 2020 with Dad Tom, Mum Tina big brother Jack and our dog Suki. I am sure that the love, confidence and creativity instilled in Tommy for those months in Tadworth made an impact that lasted a lifetime not only on who Tommy is now but who we are as a family." - Tina, Tommy's mum
