At the forefront of paediatric neurorehabilitation

Published on: 22/10/25

Physiotherapists from The Children’s Trust attend national conference to share innovative approaches to rehabilitation for children and young people with a brain injury.

On 3 and 4 October 2025, members of The Children’s Trust physiotherapy team attended the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) national conference.

The theme was ‘Igniting and Inspiring Excellence - improving outcomes for every child.'

The event brought together professionals, researchers, and clinicians committed to improving the lives of children and young people through innovative, evidence-based approaches.

Innovative approaches at The Children’s Trust

Savannah Salsone, Specialist Physiotherapist, shared a poster showcasing a reflective case study on health inequality and goal attainment, highlighting the challenges and successes in addressing disparities in access and outcomes.

Lucy Cox, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, shared a poster on transforming goal setting at The Children’s Trust by implementing the F-words life wheel. This demonstrated the positive impact it has had since its introduction in our rehabilitation services, particularly in empowering children and families to collaborate with clinicians.

Rachel Garrod, Highly Specialist Physiotherapist, delivered a presentation on the use of neurotechnology in paediatric rehabilitation, exploring both its potential and the barriers clinicians face in implementation.

Collaboration and learning

The conference provided valuable insights into the work being done across various organisations, with many presentations featuring research from Masters and PhD students.

Key takeaways included the critical role of physical activity across the life span for young people’s development and wellbeing, the importance of data-informed decision making to guide interventions, and the need for a collaborative culture emphasising partnerships with schools, communities, and families.

Savannah Salsone, Specialist Physiotherapist at The Children’s Trust, says: “The APCP conference was an experience that reinforced our commitment to improving outcomes for children through reflective practice and collaboration.”

Melanie Burrough, Director of Therapies and Education at The Children’s Trust, says: “We are extremely proud of our dedicated physiotherapists at The Children’s Trust who ‘ignite and inspire excellence’ every day! The team are committed and passionate about providing the best outcomes for children and young people and having three abstracts accepted at APCP this year is a testament to that – congratulations to the physiotherapy team.”
