United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) Film Award 2018 winners were announced at the UKABIF 10th Annual Conference 2018 last week. The four winners of the awards sponsored by Elysium Neurological were:

Kathryn Cann for the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

This film covers how brain injuries strike out of the blue and fundamentally change life's course. It explains that finding the right help is an essential part of moving forward and introduces the different professions in hospital – people you never plan to meet, but are glad they are there.

Lauren Nicholas for the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

The when you have a brain injury film by Lauren Nicholas has been produced by patients at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. It explains how the brain controls everything and says that when you have a brain ‘it’s like it’s run away’.

Anne Johnson

In her film Not just a bump to the head: the fall that changed my life Anne Johnson discusses her post-concussion syndrome.

Jeremiah Humphreys-Piercy

The film Commuter shows how all patients, in order to reach their restored lifestyle, must undertake a journey of recovery. This takes time and has many stages. This film compresses the many months and recovery points into a single train journey. It stresses that it's important to remember that recovery does not stop.

Looking back

And we can’t cover this year’s winners without mentioning a film by one of last year’s runners up that really resonates with us – Jimmy’s movie. Take a look at this film by Jimmy who was only 11 years old at the time.
