A series of new training videos has been released to provide much-needed advice, tips and techniques for educators working with children with specific SEND conditions, including brain injury.

Funded by the Department For Education and aimed at Newly Qualified Teachers, the videos focus on inclusive teaching strategies for conditions including hearing impairment; physical disability; social, emotional and mental health needs; speech, language and communications needs; and visual impairment, among others.

The Department For Education worked with N-ABLES – the National Acquired Brain Injury in Learning and Education Syndicate – to deliver the resources. N-ABLES was established by brain injury charity UKABIF to raise awareness and understanding of brain injury in the education system.

Anne Heavey, the National Director of Whole School SEND, who helped create the videos, said: “We know that many new teachers lack confidence when it comes to supporting pupils with SEND in their classes. We hope that these videos will help every teacher to ensure that every child in their care achieves and is happy at school.”

Speaking on Twitter about the new guidance for teachers, Liz Twist, MP for Blaydon, said: “This is good news – the needs of children with ABI can too often be overlooked when the injury’s not visible.”
