This Christmas, will you help children like Violet find their sparkle again?
Violet came here last Christmas for intensive, specialist rehabilitation following a stroke aged eight.
What was a normal school day turned into a nightmare when Violet was rushed to hospital unable to move. It shortly became clear that Violet had had a stroke and there was a long road ahead.
Following surgery and an extensive stay in hospital, Violet came to The Children’s Trust for intensive rehabilitation. Not only was she unable to walk and talk like she once could, Violet had also lost her confidence and her sparkle.
Finding her sparkle and strength again
Whilst here, Violet had physio, occupational therapy, school lessons, speech and language classes and emotional therapy too. At first, she found it hard to talk about her feelings, but while building with Lego in therapy she revealed that she understood what had happened, knew her future might be different, and wasn’t afraid.
Despite what they were dealing with, Violet and her family still managed to find joy during the festive season. Violet and one of her friends wrote a script about cheeky elves getting ready for Christmas, and they performed it as the festive show. It was at this moment that Violet’s parents saw her sparkle coming back.
After nine weeks of intensive rehabilitation, Violet went home and has ben doing really well. Before the stroke, her dream was to compete in showjumping at the Olympics, and she's still aiming high, except now, it's for the Paralympics!
