Help us to give every child a world of opportunity
2020 was a tough year for many of us. So imagine how Mikail’s mum Ro felt when she got a call to say that he was fighting for his life in an air ambulance, on the way to intensive care. Mikail and his Dad were involved in a serious car accident which resulted in Mikail suffering a serious brain injury.
He required emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain, and spent 10 weeks in hospital recovering. Mikail had survived and he was stable. But he couldn’t walk. His parents sat at his bedside, wondering if he’d ever be able to do something we all take for granted: simply to put one foot in front of the other.
After ten weeks in hospital, Mikail could take a few steps if supported. But specialist rehabilitation was his best chance to do what he wanted most: to walk again. So the family was overjoyed that The Children’s Trust were taking referrals despite COVID-19, and Mikail arrived here at our specialist centre of excellence in November 2020.
On Christmas eve, just weeks later Mikail ran down the corridor independently with the biggest smile on his face, the greatest Christmas present for Mikail and his parents.
It wasn’t just one therapy or our space-age equipment that helped Mikail. It was down to the intensive, co-ordinated specialist rehabilitation programme that The Children’s Trust is uniquely-placed to deliver. And it’s down to you too.
We never forget that supporters like you make our work possible. As well as the disruption of COVID-19, we face an ongoing challenge. For every child like Mikail, there are three more who can’t get to Tadworth. Our team is so dedicated and determined, we want to help everyone who needs us, so please will you kindly help again?
Your donation today will help us continue our specialist work and to grow what we do too. You will help us to say, “yes, we can help”, to every family whose child has brain injury. Please help us give every child their chance to live the best life possible – and accept a big thank you, from everyone here.
