A special guest returns to The Children's Trust five years after sustaining his brain injury
On Friday (19 August) 22-year-old Abdullah commemorated five years since his brain haemorrhage by visiting staff and young people at The Children’s Trust.
In August 2017 Abdullah’s life changed suddenly when he fell ill, spending seven weeks at St George’s Hospital in London. After just a few days at home, Abdullah moved to The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, Surrey for an intensive course of rehabilitation to relearn skills he had lost as a result of his brain injury.
“Being at The Children’s Trust was the most significant step in my recovery journey, as it was there that I regained my mobility and independence, and it felt appropriate that I visit them,” explained Abdullah. “I’ve celebrated several key milestones recently, including passing my driving test, graduating university, and getting married – I wanted to share these achievements with everyone at The Children’s Trust who had helped me.”
Melanie Burrough, Director of Therapies at The Children’s Trust commented: “It was lovely to catch up with Abdullah and hear about what he’s been up to since leaving The Children’s Trust. He was a pleasure to work with, a very determined young man, and we are all very proud of what he has gone on to achieve.”
“I really enjoyed being back in Tadworth,” said Abdullah. “It gave me time to reflect on lots of memories, happy memories of the time I spent there. It was a turbulent time in my life, but the way the therapists and everyone at The Children’s Trust supported me through it changed the narrative from a negative experience to a positive one.”
