The Inspiration Behind The Supercar Event – Becky Groves’ story

At the age of 12 Becky Groves, from Crawley, miraculously survived a potentially fatal brain virus – and woke from a coma, after doctors turned off her life-support machine. When she woke from her coma she had lost the ability to walk, talk, or do anything for herself. After leaving hospital, Becky was transferred to The Children’s Trust, the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. At the specialist centre in Tadworth, she received a tailor-made rehabilitation programme to help her make the best recovery possible. Last year, Becky achieved another milestone in her life by completing her further education to gain 16 vocational qualifications and a GCSE.   Becky, now 22 years, is keen to get some work experience and plans are being put in place for her to volunteer at The Children’s Trust’s charity shop in Crawley. Becky’s incredible recovery inspired a hugely successful, annual fundraiser for The Children’s Trust.  In 2007, a family friend Richard Davis led a group of Ferrari owners to visit The Children’s Trust to give rides to the children, families and staff. The visit was a great hit and The Supercar Event was born! During the last ten years, over £500,000 has been raised from this event. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Supercar Event, Becky Groves will be taking part in the official opening on Saturday - with a supercar ride on the parade lap.
