P-utter generosity

A Tadworth-based businessman has kindly donated the proceeds of a recent company golf day to us. Former professional footballer John Salako, a good friend of The Children’s Trust, was also involved. Living within a couple of long tee shots from The Children’s Trust, there was only one local charity to which company director and keen golfer Clive Bowden wanted to give a substantial donation. And that is how the £3,500 proceeds from a golf day which he organised for his company, J W Cannon & Co Ltd. came our way this month. Also very much involved was one of The Children’s Trust’s keen friends, former Crystal Palace footballer John Salako. He not only joined in the afternoon’s proceedings as a guest golfer on the Banstead Downs Golf Club course but sang our praises during the evening, when an auction and raffle helped to boost the overall total. “I have long admired the good work which The Children’s Trust does, right on my doorstep,” said Clive, whose grandfather started the building company 70 years ago next year. “I thought it would be a great opportunity to show how much the invaluable work it carries out is appreciated”. A talented musician and, when he occasionally finds the time in his hectic schedule to wear a different kind of director’s hat (in the theatre), he has been known to keep the actors in order in musicals at The Epsom Playhouse.

His good friend John Salako tells us: “I am delighted that the company have given such generous support to The Children’s Trust, which is a marvellous organisation. I am always happy to support it”. Now the pair of them are looking forward to participating in our own golf day in September. Thank you, Clive, your colleagues, and everyone involved for your invaluable contribution to The Children’s Trust funds. A magnanimous golfing gesture? We “hole”-heartedly agree!
