Play Fund appeal
When so much of the time is spent looking after the children’s care and medical needs, time for fun and laughter is an essential part of every day at The Children's Trust.
The Trust works hard to make sure every child can take part in things that they enjoy. Favourite pastimes include board and computer games, weekly wheelchair football and hockey, going to Scouts and pamper and make over sessions.
Weekend activities, trips out and activity days are always popular - last summer the children went on 70 outings!
Roller Disco Fun
'I thought you would like to hear what some of the children have been up to; children and staff have been getting their skates on as the Trust had its very own roller disco in our hall with disco lights and music!! The children in wheelchairs were whizzed around by staff on skates, which as you can imagine caused great excitement! One brave little boy took a huge step and with support from physiotherapists was able to skate by himself, he is still beaming from ear to ear!'
Outreach Play Days
During the summer children living at home who are normally visited by our nurses have ‘Play Days’ at the Trust. The chance to make new friends and play with great toys is fantastic. Whether busy icing biscuits, playing with musical toys, exploring colourful new surroundings and burrowing and sliding in the ball pool the children have a great day out while their families enjoy some rare ‘time off’ together.
Play, fun and laughter are always high on the agenda at the Trust. Helping to build confidence and making the children’s therapies more enjoyable is extremely important. It costs around £200,000 each year:
